Casco Recreation offers aquacise classes at Pleasant Lake.

If you want to burn it off, tone it up, or get better range of motion without injury....this is the place for you. Workouts include stretching, water aerobics, toning, cool down and are adapted to all levels. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30-1:30 at Pleasant Beach on Mayberry Hill. Cost is $50.00 for 5 weeks. All participants must pre register, deadline for registration is Thursday July 15th. Forms are available at the Casco community center. Red Cross Swim Lessons
American Red Cross Swimming Lessons
American Red Cross swim lessons will be offered for children and adults of all ages and levels.

Gardening Classes
Basic Composting
Learn the basics of composting (including why, how, what and what not to compost). We will also discuss tips and tools for a successful home composting operation. The evening will finish with a brief discussion of worm composting.

Gardening to Promote Beneficial Insects
Are you interested in natural pest management and learning how beneficial insects can help control insect pests in your yard and garden? Participants will learn to identify and attract the good bugs using flowering plants, creative garden design and habitat management techniques.

Select and Grow Herbs
Are you curious to learn what it takes to have a successful herb garden and the various uses of common herbs? This class will introduce participants to the basics of gardening with herbs including cultural requirements and processes for harvesting and drying.

Department of Inland Fisheries
HUNTER SAFETY COURSE

Wednesday, June 23rd from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 10th from 8:00-4:30 p.m.

This course is taught by State of Maine Certified hunter safety instructors, and will be a home study course. On Wednesday, the 23rd, instructors will provide participants with all necessary material including workbooks and assignments for the home study portion. Instructors will also provide guidance and demonstration of proper firearms, handling, and a discussion of laws and responsibilities.

On July 10th, instruction will be given on first aid, survival, map and compass; responsibilities, ethics and a review of the home study subjects.
Participants should bring a lunch and dress for outdoor field exercises. Participants must be at least 10 years of age; anyone under 18 years of age will need parent consent on the State of Maine course registration card and anyone 12 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a parent of guardian. Pre-registration is required and can be done at the Town of Casco Recreation Department at 627-4187. A donation of $5.00 should be made to the Casco Recreation Department. Minimum enrollment to hold a class is 10 with a maximum of 40.

Tai Chi
Tai chi is a slow and gentle moving form of exercise that improves one’s flexibility and balance. Tai chi has also been proven to relieve arthritis pain and lower blood pressure. This Tai Chi class is specially designed for seniors (55+ years). This class will teach Tai Chi as an exercise rather than a martial art.

5-7 p.m. This teaches the serious junior about the game of golf and how to make great shots.

Tennis Lessons
Tennis Lessons:
The program is designed to teach and develop the necessary skills of the sport. Our Tennis Instructor, Barrie Johnson is USTA quick start certified and has been involved with tennis for many years and is looking forward to teaching children and adults alike. (Children must be at least 9 years old)

Art Classes
Show your artistic side
Watercolor for beginners as well as intermediates, this course will refine vision; develop an awareness and appreciation of painting while exploring new techniques and means of personal expression. The instructor will take the participants through each step of the painting process.

Watercolor for Intermediate/advanced. This class will have much more emphasis on the elements and principles of art, we will learn to compose and render your own photo references. This class will have more on value and color studies. Bring your artistic to this class.

Intergrated Art Camp
Intergrated Art Camp:
Casco Recreation is pleased to offer its fifth consecutive summer Integrated Arts Camp. The camp will be divided into three-two week camps, offering age appropriate activities and instruction. Children will engage in drama, dance, and art to produce a short performance. The performance will be presented on the last day of camp.

Carmel Ann Collins will be the instructor of our 2010 summer camp. An educator and also a performer for more than twenty-five years, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the arts. Carmel currently teaches dance at Lake Region High School, bringing dance and art to the community through outreach programs and performances. Carmel has been the director of several art summer programs including Naples, Windham, Wohelo, and Tapawingo.
