Town Government

NOMINATION PAPERS for one (1) vacant Selectboard seat for remaining term ending June 2021 are now available and can be picked up at the Town Office during normal business hours. They must be returned by close of business on Friday, September 4, 2020 and must include at least 25 signatures of Casco registered voters, but no more than 100, to be included on the November ballot.

Notices

  • November Elections: We are now accepting requests for absentee ballots for November 3, 2020 Election. If you have previously requested absentee ballots you need to request again for this election. Download an application here and mail to: Town Clerk, 635 Meadow Road, Casco, ME, 04015. Ballots will be mailed as soon as we receive them (early October)
  • Private Roads: POLICY POSTPONED The Selectboard has voted to postpone bringing this policy before voters this year due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19. Procedures regarding plowing/sanding of private roads will continue as it has the last couple years with required easements, maintained road surface, etc.  Click here to review the proposed Winter Maintenance of Private Roads Policy with accompanying letter explaining how the policy has come about. This will be on the warrant for this year’s annual Town Meeting for July 2020. The Selectboard welcomes feedback on this policy.   • Updated Casco/Naples Transfer Station/Bulky Waste Operations Manual: Includes new and old facility rules regarding stickers, use of facility, and consequences for failure to follow them. Please click here for the manual. An educational flyer is being created and will be distributed asap.

  • Water Testing: Two nearby labs (Maine Environmental Labs in Yarmouth 846-6560 and A&L Lab in Auburn 784-5354) charge $35 for Radon and $35 for Uranium. Both labs provide free test kits and instructions. A&L has kits available for pick up at the UPS Store in No. Windham and you can ship it back to CA&L free of charge from the Windham UPS Store.

Helpful information regarding Town Office services

MARRIAGE LICENSES
Marriage licenses will be issued between the hours of Tuesdays from 11:30 to 6:30 and the other days 9-4. By Appointment Only. Please allow one hour to complete the application process. Printing off the intention form before coming in to the office will save time. Click here to view intention form. Please note: Do not sign the intentions form until it is submitted with the clerk.

NOTARY SERVICES
If you are coming into the office for services that require a notary, please call the office to see if a notary is available (a staff notary is not always available during regular office hours)

Due to often lengthy transactions, we ask that you visit the office before 3:30 pm to be sure that the office staff can best serve you to process the below transactions:

  • New motor vehicle transactions
  • Motor vehicle transactions that have moved into Casco, from a former state
  • New Leased motor vehicle transactions
  • New commercial motor vehicle transactions

Property Tax Services

The Town of Casco is pleased to announce its participation in the Maine PayPort ePayment Property Tax Service. This 24/7 online service allows payment of current fiscal year real estate and personal property taxes by credit card. If you owe previous year(s) taxes, you will not be able to use this service.

Please note, Maine PayPort is a third party payment processor and there is a fee to use of this service. The fee is a minimum of $1.00 or 2.5%, whichever is greater.

RTP has been working closely with the Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG), Maine Department of Transportation and the Public Health Program at the Opportunity Alliance (TOA) to increase the convenience and sustainability of this valuable service for the Lakes Region community.

A survey of over 400 Lakes Region residents, conducted by GPCOG and TOA this spring, indicated strong support for the service. One in six respondents noted that the lack of a vehicle, or reliable access to transportation, can be a barrier to employment for them.
